Lindor Milk Truffles

Today, I am reviewing a milk chocolate truffle from Lindor. When I asked other’s opinions on what chocolates I should review, these were a popular choice. Typically, I love Lindor truffles but they are not high end chocolate. When I tasted the outer shell, to me it tasted similar to dyed white chocolate. Its appearance was very dull and it did not have that true chocolate flavor. It tasted just like a much creamier version of the Palmer brand chocolate bar.

The inside is similar. Although the texture and consistency is amazing, the taste is still lacking. It is closer to tasting like real chocolate but the actual chocolate taste is not there. It also had a waxy taste which I do not prefer.  Although if you actually take a second and look past the texture and the creaminess, you will notice the void of overall flavor.

I would give this a 6 out of 10

Plamer's Milk Chocolate Bar

Today I am reviewing Palmer's brand milk chocolate Merry Money candy bar that I bought at Meijer. At first I was surprised at how good it tasted. I then realized that this was probably due to the fact that this candy brand is like comfort food. This is the typical chocolate a consumer may receive around the holidays, such as in a giant chocolate bunny form for Easter. After realizing this, I tried to look at it from a different perspective. This chocolate did not quite have as strong as a waxy taste as I was thinking it would. Personally, I think it tastes less waxy than the popular Hersey bar. However, it does not quite taste like true chocolate either. It is much sweeter. After looking at the ingredients I notice that sugar is the first ingredient listed and cocoa is listed as the 4th ingredient. This definitely makes it seem less like a chocolate bar and more like a sugar bar.

The texture is also a little funny. I find it a little thick when comparing it to other chocolates. Overall, I do not dislike the taste of the chocolate, but it definitely does not taste like real chocolate. Some with a sweet tooth may find this candy bar very good, but I wouldn't expect it to top many chocolate bars. I think though many Americans have emotional ties to this chocolate, due to the time that it is given and the reasons of which it is given. These reasons could outweigh the taste and quality of the chocolate.

Overall I would give this a 3 out of 10

Blog information

This blog will be used to document my experiences as I begin exploring the taste and culture surrounding wine. A big part of wine studies is learning to discern flavors and characteristic nuances of the different wines. I plan to first start this by learning how to taste and distinguish flavors and quality. I begin doing this with chocolate. By using a variety of chocolate, from dollar store chocolate to high end chocolate, I hope to train myself to notice things about chocolate such as consistency, undertones, and richness which in turn will allow me to recognize high end chocolate from lower end chocolate. This will then increase my understanding and skills for tasting and improve my knowledge when I go on to taste wine. This blog will first consist of my reviews and tasting of chocolate and then when I go to Australia it will turn into how to taste and understand wine.

I hope you enjoy it!
